San Joaquin County, located in California’s Central Valley, is home to one of the most diverse populations in the United States; the majority of the population is Hispanic and many families earn low to moderate incomes. The potential for improving thousands of minorities’ current financial hardships is enormous. But, many minorities have no voice, no visibility, and limited resources to survive. Sus Finanzas was established to address this critical need and to provide comprehensive financial guidance and accessibility to financial solutions.

To encourage sound financial habits and stimulate economic development, Sus Finanzas provides a series of financial literacy courses from the FDIC Money Smart curriculum at no cost to participants. As an added incentive, participants who complete all stages of the educational program and deposit funds in their savings account for a period of six months will receive a corresponding match up to a maximum of $250 via our Monetary Matching Program.

The results of our program are clear. Our participants are achieving financial inclusion by:

  • Depositing money into their savings account on a monthly basis
  • Utilizing overdraft protection and direct deposit
